CamSur focuses on Environmental Protection
The CamSur provincial government under the leadership of Gov. LRay Villafuerte is keen on devising means and measures towards providing protection to environment and Mother Nature in the firm belief that its abuse and disregard may cause vengeful wrath against humans, the very entity for whose benefit it was created. Thus, since 2008 a series of programs was launched that would address the various concerns involved in environmental protection. Initially, it spurred awareness on solid waste management via the establishment of an office that spearheads its promotion starting from within the Capitol Complex, particularly with the offices and employees. Its proposal with TESDA for the inclusion of solid waste management to the curricula of the provincially-run Southeast Asia Institute of Computer Technology (SEAIct) gained much headway and was finally approved as an NSTP course on June 4, 2009, making CamSur the very first province allowed the inclusion of the said course in its curriculum. The establishment of the Environment Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO) was announced last June 18, 2010 as the provincial government participated in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill. Since then EDMERO has taken active participation in activities related to environment protection and management and even responding to eventualities and risk posed or otherwise brought by environment.
