Writer: Jemuel Vargas and Annalyn Gallego

A spectacular parade of bull carts carrying fresh produce, tagba-on-wheels, various offerings, and the colorful costumes of the street dance participants colored the celebration of the Tinagba Festival 2025 at the Iriga City National Highway and Ceremonial Grandstand on February 11, 2025.

With the theme, "Pag-atang, Pag-ogma, Pagpasalamat, ag Pag-rokyaw," this year’s festival emphasized offerings, joy, thanksgiving, and celebration. The celebration centered on giving thanks for nature’s blessings while fostering unity and happiness among the people of Iriga City.

The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, along with Congressman Migz Villafuerte and Congressman Lray Villafuerte, also joined in the celebration of the festival and showed their support for the thanksgiving tradition of the city.

The festival also highlighted the Tinagba Street Dance Competition, where 11 schools in Iriga City showcased their creative and energetic performances. The competition was an impressive display of choreography, traditional dance movements, and colorful costumes, reflecting the essence of Iriga’s rich cultural heritage.

“Napakaimportante po na i-celebrate ang Tinagba Festival kasi naaalala natin yung mga tradition and culture dito sa Iriga. Nagiging way din po ito para magkaisa ang mga tao dito. Maganda din po kasi nakakalahok din dito ang mga indigenous people natin,” shared Jamaica Castillo, a Grade 12 student of San Pedro National High School, and one of the participants of the Street Dance Competition.

Beyond the vibrant parades and performances, the Tinagba Festival is a testament to the resilience and unity of the Irigueños. It is a celebration that strengthens community ties, honors the city’s agricultural roots, and instills a sense of pride among its people.

“This Tinagba Festival is more than just a celebration — it is a reminder of our deep-rooted faith and the countless blessings that we continue to receive. Thank you for all your participation and, as we always say, the competition is not just about winning, it is about how you take part in it,” shared Iriga City MayorRex Oliva, expressing his gratitude to the people of Iriga for their continued support and participation in the festival.

Rooted in pre-colonial traditions, the Tinagba Festival served as an expression of gratitude for a bountiful harvest and a tribute to the Iriga City’s agricultural heritage. Over the years, it has evolved into a grand celebration, attracting locals and tourists alike with its colorful parades, traditional rituals, and energetic performances.
