This enduring tradition continues as the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur officially launched the 3rd Agila Cup Intertown Basketball Tournament, reaffirming its commitment to grassroots sports development and community building.
Now on its third staging, the Agila Cup has evolved into one of the province's flagship sporting events, providing athletes from every corner of Camarines Sur with the opportunity to represent their hometowns on a larger stage. This year's tournament features three highly competitive divisions the 16 Under, Open Division, and 40 Up Division creating opportunities not only for aspiring young players but also for seasoned athletes who continue to inspire the next generation through their love for the game.
More than a competition for championship trophies, the Agila Cup celebrates the spirit of every Camarinense community. Every participating team carries the colors, identity, and aspirations of its municipality, transforming each game into a showcase of local pride and unity. Families, friends, classmates, and supporters fill the sidelines to cheer for their hometowns, strengthening the bond between athletes and the communities they represent.
For many young players, the tournament is their first opportunity to compete at the provincial level. During the opening ceremony, Governor Luis Raymund “Lray” Villafuerte Jr. encouraged every participant to take pride in representing their municipalities, reminding them that wearing their hometown's uniform is already a significant achievement. He emphasized that while victories are celebrated, the true success of the tournament lies in the character it builds and the opportunities it creates for young Camarinenses.
The opening games immediately showcased the tournament's competitive spirit. In the 16 Under Division, Iriga City earned an impressive 82–67 victory over Baao, while the Open Division saw Iriga City deliver a commanding 107–57 win against Nabua. The exciting matchups offered fans an early glimpse of the talent, determination, and competitive energy that will define this year's tournament.
As the season progresses, the 3rd Agila Cup is expected to bring together thousands of athletes, coaches, families, and basketball enthusiasts from across the province.
