For families living in the farthest communities of Camarines Sur, a medical emergency often begins with a difficult journey. Long distances, limited transportation, and the race against time can stand between a patient and the care they urgently need. Every minute matters—and every vehicle capable of bringing patients safely to a hospital can make a life-saving difference.
Recognizing this need, the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur received two (2) Patient Transport Vehicles (PTVs) from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) during a turnover ceremony held on July 15, 2026, at the PCSO Main Office. The vehicles were formally accepted by Vice Governor Sal Fortuno Jr. on behalf of the province, together with personnel from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The newly donated units are designed to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transport for patients requiring immediate medical attention. Equipped with essential emergency transport facilities, including wheelchairs and retractable stretchers, the Patient Transport Vehicles will help improve the province's referral system by ensuring that patients from remote barangays can be transported promptly to hospitals and healthcare facilities where they can receive appropriate medical care.
For the PCSO, the initiative reflects its continuing commitment to making healthcare services more accessible to Filipinos, particularly those living in underserved communities.
"The Patient Transport Vehicle is fully equipped with essential medical transport facilities, including a wheelchair and retractable stretcher. It enables patients from our barangays to be transported safely and quickly to the nearest hospitals where they can receive the appropriate medical care. Through this program, we continue our commitment to bringing healthcare closer to every Filipino," said Attorney Lauro Patiag, PCSO Assistant General Manager for the Charity Sector.
Patiag shared that the Patient Transport Vehicle Program forms part of PCSO's nationwide initiative launched in 2022, which has already distributed more than 1,800 Patient Transport Vehicles across the country. As the program nears completion, every province in the Philippines is set to receive two transport units, further strengthening local healthcare systems through improved patient mobility and emergency response.
He also expressed the agency's appreciation to the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur for its continued partnership with the PCSO in implementing programs that directly benefit the public, emphasizing that such collaboration allows more Filipinos to access essential healthcare services both in the province and beyond.
For the Provincial Government, the additional transport vehicles represent another significant investment in bringing healthcare closer to every Camarinense, particularly those living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas where access to medical facilities remains a challenge.
