The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO), in partnership with the Provincial Government through the Environment, Disaster Management, and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO), successfully concluded a 3-Day Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid (BLS/SFA) Training for personnel of the Tourist Police Unit (TPU) and Police Headquarters (PHQ) on September 2–4, 2026, at Camp Col. Juan Querubin Miranda, Concepcion Grande, Naga City.

A total of 50 police personnel completed the training — 41 from TPU stations in Caramoan, Pasacao, Pili, and San Jose, and nine (9) from PHQ. This followed the first batch of the same training, conducted for PNP personnel across the province on March 24–27, 2026.

The training is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of police personnel in responding to emergencies where immediate intervention is critical. It also served as a refresher course, reinforcing updated techniques and best practices that PNP personnel can apply whenever an incident occurs. 

Participants took part in lectures and hands-on skills demonstrations covering key topics such as the BLS algorithm, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue breathing, use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), and bandaging and splinting techniques. 

The activity also helped strengthen teamwork, situational analysis, and the overall readiness of PNP personnel to respond effectively during emergencies.

Pat. Nestor A. Beringula Jr., assigned to the Tourist Police in San Jose, emphasized the importance of the training, noting that police officers often serve as first responders during accidents and other emergencies. He said the training equips them with the knowledge and skills to provide immediate assistance and potentially save lives while awaiting further medical help.

Among the skills he deepened was CPR, which he considers especially relevant to his assignment along Tagas, San Jose Boulevard, a popular swimming spot for tourists. He noted that knowing how to perform CPR could prove crucial in drowning incidents. He also learned the proper use of an AED and how to follow its instructions during cardiac emergencies. 

"Ang oras ay buhay. Kaya sa mga ganitong sitwasyon, 'pag may mga insidente, mas mabuti po 'yung may training ka, para ma-apply mo po, magbigay ka ng paunang lunas doon sa nangangailangan ng tulong," he said.

Meanwhile, PMaj. Rommel R. San Andres, TPU Chief of CSPPO, emphasized that the Tourist Police play a vital role in providing security and assistance to visitors in the province, and that the training further strengthens the TPU's capability to assist tourists during untoward incidents.

"’Pagpasok pa lang ng PNP, madami na kaming mga seminar training na ginaganap or binibigay sa amin. Sa totoo lang, napakaswerte namin na magkaroon ng refresher training about Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid," he said. He likewise extended his gratitude to the Provincial Government through EDMERO, and to CSPPO under Provincial Director PCol. Tyrone Razon Dotimas, for the successful conduct of the training.

The Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring public safety through training, seminars, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthen the readiness and capability of its partner agencies—particularly the PNP—in responding to disasters, medical emergencies, and other public safety concerns.
