“I have previous experience working abroad as a demi chef. But when the pandemic happened, I was one of the many [employees] who got laid off,” shared Louie Redondo of Brgy. Abella, Naga City.
Redondo was an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) working in the food industry abroad. According to him, the experience, policies, and the money they make are among the reasons he opted to work outside the Philippines. Unfortunately, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world and imposed restrictions on the mobility of the public, he was laid off from work. Redondo is only one of the many OFWs who lost their jobs because of the pandemic and was forced to fly back to the Philippines.
Aiming to curb the effects of the global lockdown and to provide its people the chance to have a fresh start and recover from its impacts, one of the astute solutions of the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur is by conducting multiple recruitment activities and job fairs that will give them opportunities for local and international employment.
With this, the Provincial Government of CamSur, under the visionary leadership of Governor Luigi Villafuerte, through the efforts of Public Employment Service Office (PESO-CamSur), conducted anew recruitment activities and opened employment opportunities to the people of Camarines Sur.
“Applying and job hunting is not new for me. I am also an experienced worker in and outside the country. That is why when I heard of the recruitment activity, I immediately grabbed this opportunity,” said Redondo.
Redondo is one of the 259 hopeful applicants who flocked to the two-day Special Recruitment Activity of the PESO-CamSur held at the Robinsons Place Naga on January 12 to 13, 2023.
In collaboration with the LEAD Resources Management Corporation, 1,875 job openings in Bahrain, Canada, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudia Arabia were offered to the hopeful Camarinenses. Out of the total applicants, 222 qualified for the final interview, while two were hired on the spot.
“This recruitment activity is truly beneficial to anyone looking for a job. This is a huge opportunity, especially to people like me who have been released from work and been out of job since. Also, I know that I’m not the only one who’s thankful for this opportunity,” concluded Redondo who hopes that similar activities will be continuously conducted for the people of CamSur.
Prior to the Special Recruitment Activity, the PESO-CamSur, in partnership with Six in One Corporation, has also conducted a Local Recruitment Activity on January 6, 2023 at the Convention Center, Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili.
Furthermore, another recruitment activity and employer’s interview are scheduled before the end of January.
Though the year 2023 may have just begun, the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur is already nonstop in providing its people with employment opportunities and new chances to improve their quality of life.
