BSP CamSur Council celebrates diamond jubilee

Writer: Charen Vera

To commemorate its anniversary, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Camarines Sur Council conducted the 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary Scouts Jamboree held in Camp Rodriguez - Santos, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur on February 3-5, 2023.

With three years gap since the last jamboree in 2019, the scouts were undeniably excited and thankful to congregate and meet each other once again after the global lockdown restricted their movements and impeded their activities. As this proves, over 5,300 boy, senior, and rover scouts joined the much-awaited jamboree exceeding the expectation of the CamSur Council by more than a half.

The scout delegations were divided in seven subcamps namely Veluz, Villafuerte, Malonda, Fuentebella, and Alfelor for every delegation from each congressional district of the province, while Subcamp Samarista is for the private school delegates and Subcamp Henson is for the secondary school. Each subcamp was named after revered former scouts.

The goal of the BSP CamSur Council in conducting the jamboree is not only to bring the scouts together and promote camaraderie but, more importantly, is to equip them with essential life skills and to help mold and develop their characters through scouting.

With the theme, “Sustaining Growth,” the three-day jamboree was filled with various activities such as the Scouts Got Talent, Grand Campfire, Scout Parade, and the skills training divided into four (4) modules, viz., Sustain, Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Scout Skills.

The Module 1: Sustain was focused on environmental protection. Specifically, it tackled Earth Tribe, Plastic Tide Turner, and Messenger of Peace. The Module 2: Safety covered the Road Safety, Firemanship, and Weather Forecasting. As for the Module 3: Emergency Preparedness, it gave emphasis on First Aid, Transport and Carries, and Bandaging, while Module 4: Scout Skills was all about Rope Works, Signaling, and Challenge Valley.

To ensure the safety, security, and health of the scouts and guests, the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, through Environment, Disaster Management, and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO), activated the Event Management Team. The EMT stationed at the campsite since day 0 included offices from different line agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Education (DepEd), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pili, Barangay Tanod of Cadlan and Palestina, EDMERO, Provincial Health Office (PHO), and General Services Office (GSO).

Weeks before the jamboree and the arrival of the scouts, the Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor Luigi Villafuerte, was already extending its support to the BSP CamSur Council by leading the repairs of buildings and roads inside the campsite. On the day of the jamboree, the Provincial Government also provided the rice for all the council members and EMT, sound system, generators, and standby electricians.

More significantly, the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur also deployed and stationed the Hospital-on-Wheels on the campsite from day 0. This is to safeguard the health and well-being of the scout who underwent various training and activities for three days. Scouts who had stomach ache, headache, fever, even those who fainted and suffered minor splinters were promptly attended to. They were also able to avail of the free X-ray, ECG, and checkup and were provided with needed medicine and vitamins.
