Writer: Mary Fe De Vergara

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 5, through the Project Click or Courses for Literacy on Internet and Computer Knowledge successfully conducted a three-day Digital Training Literacy on July 7-9, 2025 at the Governor Mariano E. Villafuerte Community College (GMVCC) Libmanan, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur.

With DICT’s mission to champion digital literacy and capacity-building for every Filipino, 75 college students from GMVCC Libmanan and Baao Community College (BCC), who recently received laptops from Project Click, participated in the said training.

This initiative aims to provide the youth and underserved sectors with competent knowledge to stay current with the latest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) advancements. This includes lectures about computer fundamentals, Microsoft Office tools, productivity skills, online safety, responsible digital behavior, and social media awareness.

Students are divided into two groups, the basic and the intermediate groups. A total of 51 students attended the basic course, while 24 students attended the advanced training. In the advanced course, students were taught how to add a programming script in Excel, how to use the Pivot tool in filtering information, how to add formulas in the table, how to sort in Microsoft Word, and how to add action buttons, videos, music, and pictures to a presentation.

DICT instructors reviewed students’ outputs, such as resumes, mail merge letters, and presentations, providing suggestions for improvement.

Lara Bea Robianes, a first-year BS Entrepreneurship student from GMVCC Libmanan, shared her gratitude after attending the three-day training.

“As an entrepreneur student, dakulaon po siyang tabang kasi kadakol kaming ginigibong paper works like business plan and business proposal, mas madali mi na po siyang ma e-edit and mas magayon mi na po siyang magigibo,” she said.

“I’m very thankful po na saro ako sa beneficiary kasi po hindi lang sila nagbibigay ng devices, also nagpo-provide din sila ng free trainings na talagang helpful po sa mga students. Dae lang po sinda nagbasang-basang na itao si devices, kumbaga tig-assure ninda na bago itao, igwa po kaming learning or skills na magagamit mi duman sa laptop,” she added.

On July 10, 2025, students will undergo a post-evaluation test to determine their level of capacity and to find out what they have learned from the entire training.
